Metal Fillings
The Problem:
Silver fillings contain mercury, which some people object to, although there has never been a properly conducted scientific study to demonstrate that the mercury in silver fillings “escapes” to anything close to a harmful level. It’s a controversial subject, so when old fillings need to be replaced (or even sooner, if the patient is concerned about the mercury issue) and the patient desires something “white”, we can do either tooth-colored composite fillings or porcelain onlays or crowns.
The Solution:
In this case, I removed this patient’s old metal fillings and created replacement porcelain onlays.
By the way, my patient enjoyed the convenience of having all of the work completed in a few hours during one office visit using our on-premises Cerec lab instead of having to schedule her for two or three separate dental visits.
The Result:
My patient now has a brighter, whiter smile with more durable restorations that will last longer and look better.
